Singapore has banned dialect broadcasting for over 30 years. As times passes, the relationship between dialect and Chinese Singaporeans gradually drifts apart. They youths may be aware of dialect, but many of them would not consider this language as a communication tool. Also, radio programs in dialect ceased to exist due to different factors. Examples of such include riddles and storytelling. Currently in Singapore, the only radio programme in dialect is the dialect news broadcasting by Capital 95.8FM. What are the reasons for the preserving dialect news broadcasting? What is the significance of dialect broadcasting? This documentary will gather views of the public , including both young and older generations, professionals from radio stations and dialect organization, We will also discuss the importance of broadcasting in dialect, explore the factors that hinder its development and its development trends and prospects.
